Yes, Bethesda Softworks will be at this year’s E3 in LA.
Yes, we will have Fallout 3 there.
No, I don’t know why the ESA sent out a list that did not include us, just like they did last year. Maybe it’s because they had to go to print at a certain point and we hadn’t picked our space yet. No idea.
But we’ll be there and so will Fallout 3.
A couple more industry sites have added some coverage for Fallout 3…
Less than an hour ago, we got some exciting news that Fallout 3 received three nominations for the 2007 Game Critics Awards. The game pulled in nominations for Best of Show, Best PC Game, and Best RPG. For more details on all the nominations, click here.
The Game Critics Award nominations come from editors from the 36 leading videogame publications. For more details on the nominations, judging, rules, and past winners, visit here. The winners will be Tuesday, July 31.
UPDATE: On top of these nominations, we got some good news from Gamespot. The game took home Best Role-Playing Game, Best PC Game, and was a finalist for Game of the Show! Additionally, Gametrailers nominated the game in the category, Best of E3 2007: One to Watch.
The Escapist’s Joe Blancato, like me, apparently really likes “Power Rankings.” Being a sports junkie myself, I’m a big fans of checking to see how my teams do on ESPN’s weekly Power Rankings, whether it be for the Wolverines, Pistons, or Braves.
Anyhow, the site’s Inaugural Power Rankings place us in good company, as our showing at E3 helped us land a debut at #4, behind Microsoft, EA, and Irrational Game Studios. Rounding out the Top 5 was Peter Moore, who made headlines last week leaving Microsoft to head up EA Sports.
In other Fallout 3 news, here’s some more coverage that’s gone up in the last day or so:
- Grrl Gamer writer Didi Cardoso shares her first impression of the game after watching the demo in Santa Monica.
- Xbox Evolved has put a video interview with Emil.
- John Callaham of Firing Squad recaps the E3 demo and weighs in on the demo and how the game is shaping up to be different than Oblivion.
Coverage from E3 is slowing a little bit, but I still came across an award for the game over at Team Xbox, where Fallout 3 nabbed the Best Demo (Non-Playable) award. Sounds like they not only enjoyed watching Todd play the game, but also the comfort of the theater chairs provided.
Just got back from picking up my copy of the final Harry Potter book and upon returning, I was pleased to learn that Fallout 3 got plenty of kudos from IGN in their “Best of E3” feature. Fallout 3 came away with Best RPG, Best Console Game and Overall Game of Show. Discussing the game, IGN writer Chris Roper writes:
“When the lights went down and got our eyes on the 3D version of Vault 101, we knew we were in for something special. The Fallout series holds a very dear place in many gamers’ hearts, including those at Bethesda Softworks, and the developer looks to have stayed true to the universe about as well as anyone could hope.”
If you pick up today’s edition of the The New York Times, you’ll see Seth Schiesel’s E3 coverage, which asks if videogames will ever reach the same heights of ‘emotional engagement” that a Beethoven performance evokes, discusses Fallout 3:
“Much the same could be said of Fallout 3, another of my favorite games from E3. Like its esteemed predecessors, the third installment of the franchise is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where you, the player, decide how to carve out your place in a horrible new version of America.”

We got word earlier today from Russell Frushtick over at UGO that Fallout 3 beat out Mass Effect, BioShock and Rock Band for their Best of the Best award. We’re ecstatic about the news!

Just a little bit ago, we got confirmation that on GameSpy, Fallout 3 finished as the runner up in three categories: Best of Show, Xbox 360 Game of Show and PC Game of Show. Congrats to Bioshock for beating us in all three categories. Still, lots of really good games on that list that we’re excited to play ourselves, so we’re thrilled to be on the list.
In other award news, Kotaku has Fallout 3 only below Rock Band and Super Mario Galaxy for their “Best of Show” award. Among their other categories, Fallout finished 3rd for “PC Game of Show”, as well as second for “Best RPG.” Here’s some of the other recent media coverage from E3…
So I noticed that Jeff Green over at Games for Windows magazine (formerly Computer Gaming World) put up an item on his blog that talked about Fallout 3 and thought it was worthy of mention. I’ve always liked working with Jeff ’cause he’s kinda old school and curmudgeonly. Take Walter Matthau, subtract five decades, have him play an ***load of video games for about 30 years, add a serious WoW addiction, and you’ve sorta got Jeff.
In his post, Jeff mentions:
“Bethesda has taken Interplay’s late 90s isometric RPG and swooped the camera down to the ground (though you can still angle it upwards)to put us right in that burned-out post-apocalyptic universe–and, at least as far as the demo goes, it’s freakin’ revelatory.”
