Around the web and on newsstands: Playing catch up edition

After a week down under (more on that later), I’ve returned to the office with plenty of coverage to catch up on. Here’s a look at some of the stuff I’ve missed…

To kick things off, the May 2008 issue of OXM (US) has a feature called House Rules: Other Ways to Play, which reveals new ways to play Oblivion. Check out the issue if you want to know how to pitch, bowl, or even play tee-ball within the Oblivion world.

Speaking of OXM, the editors have put together a special spring issue called Ultimate Xbox 360 How-To Handbook. Within the issue is another opportunity to put together the Vault Boy bobblehead papercraft cutout that was previously found in PC Gamer. Look for the magazine on newsstands now.

JagBytes, a student media site for IUPUI (that’s Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) has a feature on one of our Fallout 3 world artists, Ryan Sears. Here’s a quick sample from it:

“Sears majored in computer art at the Savannah College of Art and Design and received his Bachelor of Fine Art in 2004. Then the job hunt began. As many college graduates discover, this can be difficult.’The job search wasn’t easy,’ Sears acknowledged. ‘I spent the year after graduation working on my portfolio and sending off resumes. I was fortunate to have a friend who got into the industry and recommended me for my current job.’ “

While on a trip to Australia last week, I picked up the May issue of Hyper, which includes four pages where the editors talk Fallout 3 with Lead Producer Gavin Carter. Here’s a sample where Gavin discussing Ron Perlman’s contributions to the game:

“Ron Perlman’s involvement in Fallout games should definitely be made into a law! War never changes, after all. He reprises his role as the intro and outro narrator in Fallout 3 — it wouldn’t be the same without him.”

Issue #189 of Edge has a new second look at Fallout 3. Here Pete discusses an example of dialogue choices found within the game:

“‘This is the Vault bully, Butch, and his little cronies,’ says Hines pointing at a table of youths. ‘They’ll start talking about how they’re forming a gang and what they want to call their gang. He wants a sweet roll that Mrs. Palmer gave me, and there are a variety of different options here. I can wuss out and give it to him, I can ask him if we can share, I can spit on it and give it to him, I can tell him to go suck his head, I can insult his mom — so we give the player a lot of choices and how Butch will react depends upon these different choices, so if I choose one of these last two options he basically gets up to fight me.’”

Outside of North America, here’s some other coverage to be on the lookout for. Starting online, French site Jeux Video PC has a two page preview up on their site now. Check it out here.

Over in Italy, GMC has a second look at Fallout 3 in their June 2008 (that’s Giugno 2008) issue.

In Sweden, the May issue of PC Gamer has a second-look preview on the game.

Finally, in the South American market, issue #17 of their magazine Xbox 360 includes a six-page feature — including an interview with Pete.

-”Reminds me of the character creation in Morrowind”.
Can anybody say? Recicle. :)

Character creation in Morrowind? Morrowind got it from Daggerfall before it, and then it was referenced in Oblivion. Sweetrolls must be popular in the east.

MR.Pagliarulo sure love’s his sweet rolls! :)

Liked the college interview - very well-written and entertaining.

Great to see more interviews and previews around.

Welcome back and thanks for the update. Lot’s of new coverage out there it seems.

Sweetroll abuse abounds. ;)

Vodafone Warriors FTW!

Rugby rules

New Zealand Warriors FTW!
Though most of NZ’s good play for Australia anyway…

Something to say?
