What we’re playing: “Isn’t it obvious?” edition

As if there was any doubt, GTA IV has taken our office by storm. Many guys here (though not everyone) seem to be loving the new Liberty City. On the night after the game came out, I noticed 29 friends on Xbox Live playing it at one time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen 29 friends online…period! From what I’ve played of the game so far, I’m definitely impressed. Last night when I couldn’t find something to watch on TV, I just started watching some Liberty City channels.

Let us know what you think of the game, or anything else you’re playing. Here’s our rundown of what we’re playing…

Todd Howard: GTA IV.

Ashley Cheng, Producer: GTA IV

Emil Pagliarulo, Lead Designer: Fallout 3, GTA IV, LOTRO

Jon Paul Duvall, Designer: GTA IV (along with everyone on the planet), my new Wii and a bunch of games for that, Race for the Galaxy (card game)

Matt Grandstaff, Community Manager: Fallout 3 in a land down under, Ninja Gaiden DS, imagining playing GTA IV.

Dan Ross, QA: Hellgate: London, Gran Turismo 4, Company of Heroes

Ryan Salvatore, Terraforming Robot: Fallout 3, Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Advance Wars DS

Craig Lafferty, Producer: GTA IV, Fallout 3

Pete Hines: Fallout 3, CoH, CoD 4, Disgaea, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, NOT GTA4

Jared Angus, QA Tester: Shards of Dalaya and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Fred Zeleny, Game Designer: A little GTA4, a little Rondo of Swords, but mostly a whole lot of Journey to the End of the Night!

Michael Lattanzia, QA: Hellgate: London, Grand Theft Auto IV, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Age of Conan beta! Lots of gaming this weekend since my classes end Friday.

Orin Tresnjak, Shader Crusader: The World Ends With You, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, Mario Kart Wii. Oh yeah, and also that other game everyone’s playing.

Shannon Bailey, Programmer: Fallout 3, Persona 3 FES, Digital Devil Saga 2

Gary Noonan, Character Animator: Lost Odyssey…. if I am not at the office working all weekend *sigh*

Aaron Mitschelen, QA: Not GTA IV. LotRO, Persona 3: FES

Louis Riley, QA: Wishing my 360 wasn’t bricked so I could play GTA IV, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, TF2 trying to unlock Medic weapons

Daryl Brigner, Level Designer: GTA IV, and Penumbra: Black Plague.

Nate McD, Organ Grinder: GTAIV

Gavin Carter, Producer: Playing Fallout 3 (PS3!), Shiren the Wanderer DS (awesome game), but not GTA4. Since I was a single day late picking up my preorder, my friendly local Gamestop decided they would just go ahead and sell it to someone else.

Sam Bernstein, QA Tester: Setting the way back machine to 1994 and booting up my 14 year old Mac (still running smoothly) and breaking out Myst, Populous II, and Syndicate. Oh Myst, how you never get old…

Ryan Lea: Frisbee Golf, Iron Man, GTA4 or Mario Kart, and Brawl.

Chris Esko, Systems programmer: GTA IV, TF2, Fallout 3.

HELLGATE LONDON with the latest patch. Cant believe how smooth everything is and the improved graphics are great. I dont even get the stuttering and slowdown by the train station headquarters I used to get all the time when returning from a mission. Impressive patch :D

Thinking of reinstalling DUNGEON SIEGE II to see how it plays on my current system compared to my old set up almost two years ago.

Hmmm GTA what is that? I’ll have to check some previews and reviews :) Ha ha I just love being out of the loop when it comes to the..popular.

I’m going to be finishing God of War: COO this weekend. Other than that I don’t have much time for anything else. I’m really thinking about getting GTA:IV though.

I’m playing… uh… uh… I’m not playing anything, actually. My game discs and half my internet have gone kaboom. I’m just working on mods to bridge the duration of my gaming exile.

Woe SYNDICATE! I used to play that on my old Amiga500. The violence was so ahead of its time and so satisfying :)POPULOUS II was pretty cool and a bit more hands on then POWERMONGER which had great atmosphere. Never could get MYST to play at a decent speed in the old days. Them still pictures sure are frame killers :D

GTA is AMAZING! I had my doubts before it came out but I can say it is the deepest game I have yet to play, DAMN! I seriously recommend this game to EVERYONE, no way to miss this one.

Haven’t played GTA4(don’t own a console) but I have heard marvelous things and I wonder if Rockstar might just be the first to follow in your footsteps and make the PC version as moddable as Oblivion.

Even if they did I have no doubt that you will continue to improve the system that you have created and look forward to giving you my money for years to come.

Thank you and the entire community for all of it. I wish it could last forever but alas…..I’m just gonna enjoy it as long as possible.

The CS is calling, I gotta get back to my uber moddable open world RPG, and still the best game of all time IMHO, Oblivion.
